Representation Agreements

commercialbbagrA Representation Agreement is a legal instrument that appoints a person called your representative, to make legal, financial, personal and health care decisions for you.

These agreements are usually drafted to protect your interests and assets should you become unable to do so. They may include your health care needs and you are able to appoint different representatives for different purposes. Furthermore, your representation agreement is governed by the Representation Agreement Act.

There are two types of Representation Agreements, Standard and Enhanced. Standard Representation Agreements cover routine financial and/or health care decisions, while Enhanced Representation Agreements give broader powers to the representative, including the ability to deal with real property, make major healthcare and financial decisions.

Our offices would be pleased to assist you with drafting your Standard or Enhanced Representation Agreement and are available for housecalls and hospital visits.  Currently, the law in BC requires an additional consultation by a member of the Law Society of BC for an Enhanced Representation Agreement and we have partner firms to handle this.
